Even if I have to crawl, I’ll get there.

Dear Reader,

Praised be Jesus and Mary!

One of my favorite Korean drama, Playful Kiss (also known as Naughty Kiss), is a romantic comedy that has taught me a lot of moral lessons in life such as perseverance and friendship.

In the very first episode, the protagonist Oh Ha Ni, was running laps as an outlet for her broken heart.

Her friends pleaded, “What are you doing? You’re already on your 34th lap. Will you stop already?”

“Two more laps,” Oh Ha Ni replied panting.

On her 35th lap, she fell down. Her friends were getting extremely worried.

“My specialty is doing anything…for a long period of time,” Oh Ha Ni said.

She was not the smartest girl in school. She was slower than the majority, but she could do anything with perseverance. Just like the snail, she never gave up and managed to reach Noah’s ark in the end.

Oh Ha Ni: Even if I have to crawl, I’ll get there.

Oh Ha Ni could barely stand on her last lap. She was determined, but she was already at her limits. When she looked up,…

…she saw her friend’s helping hand.

“Last lap. Let’s go!” her friend said.

Oh Ha Ni took her friend’s helping hand and together they finished the last lap.

There are several moral lessons here that I would like to specially point out.

First, friends are truly presents from God. True friends will honestly express their feelings such as “Will you stop already?” but we know that those words are mere expressions of concern. In fact, they are always ready to give a helping hand, because they want to see their friends reach the finish line.

Second, learn to be humble and be grateful when someone offers help. In the past, I hesitate accepting helping hands because I do not want to burden my friends. That is not the way it should be. True friends support each other.

Lastly, perseverance is important. We do not have to compare ourselves with people around us. We need to focus on our goal, believe in ourselves, and have faith that God will help us. That’s why when I think of my dreams… EVEN IF I HAVE TO CRAWL, I’LL GET THERE.

Sincerely grateful,

    Dear friend,

Someone helped me realize only yesterday that medical school is not a race, it is a marathon.
My pace might be as good as my classmate’s. However, what is more important is to keep the optimism, the hope, the faith to fulfill the dream. It’s not all about speed. We cannot just sprint. We need to train hard. We need to have the endurance. We need to keep focused. We need to believe that we’re gonna get that “MD” after our names at the end of this marathon called med school.
I am reblogging this old post as it describes exactly what I feel write now – EVEN IF I HAVE TO CRAWL, I’LL GET THERE!
