Service: How to be “Cool”

Dear Reader,

Praised be Jesus and Mary!

When you walk (or at least, try to walk) the right path of life led by the Holy Spirit, you become unpopular. Do you know what I mean? Can you relate to how I feel?

If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as it’s own; but because you do not belong to the world, that is why the world hates you.” -John 15:19

The world is not an easy place to live.

I shared in my previous post about the taxi driver who asked me about my opinion on divorce. I said I am against it. He exclaimed, “What kind of woman are you?!!”

I told my good friend that I am serving in a charismatic prayer group and he teased, “Oh! Alive-alive!!” That is a Filipino jab to express skepticism towards the charismatic renewal.

Sigh.

It can be disappointing and annoying sometimes, but never mind. It’s okay.

Being persecuted for God’s sake means we are on the right track towards the kingdom of God.”

I think being unpopular in this manner is the way to be “cool”.

I sometimes feel sad, hurt, or even scared of what other people thinks of me. Then, I will pray. This is just a test… A temptation to stop serving God. But, BE STRONG! God, the Holy Spirit, is within us!! 🙂

Remember, when we do the good thing, it is cool because we love God.

Let us persevere and keep doing our best!!!

Sincerely,
Kristine G. Veneracion
