In yesterday’s Gospel (Mk. 12:28b-34), Jesus proclaims that the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. Next is to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Love must be the center of our lives.
Here is a very beautiful quote from St. Thèrése de Lisieux.
“Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.“
I am very guilty here due to my bad temper. When someone is mean to me, I tend to ignore as much as I can. When I can no longer tahan (bear with it), unkind words will spill out of my mouth. I acknowledge that weakness of mine. That is why I can say that it sounds very simple but these small sacrifices can be quite difficult to do.
The solution can only be love. If we love God, we will love our neighbors. If we know how to love, it will be very easy to smile, to say kind words, and to do the smallest right. If we know how to love unconditionally, it does not matter whether other people hurt us.
So, I pray that Jesus Christ may teach me how to love.
Have a blessed Lent!
