In today’s Gospel, Jesus felt deep Compassion for the crowds that were helpless, “harassed and dejected” as they “were like sheep without a shepherd.” Jesus said, “The harvest is rich, but the labourers are few.” Will we let Jesus to continue feeling that way?
Evangelize. Preach. These words may seem intimadating to many of us.
Some may ask, “Aren’t these roles reserved especially for priests and preachers? How can someone like me talk about Jesus and the Gospel?” The answer is NO and DO NOT WORRY because YOU are EMPOWERED.
Evangelization is not limited to standing in front of a crowd and delivering a speech. No. It can be as simple as talking about Jesus and living His teachings. In the Prayer for Evangelization, we say, “Give us the courage to speak His name to those who are close to us and the generosity to share His love to those who are far away.”
Also, remember that it is our DUTY. During Confirmation, when we were anointed with oil, we agreed to “SHARE MORE COMPLETELY IN THE MISSION OF JESUS CHRIST”.
One of the Effects of Confirmation is that we were given a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross. Confirmation’s seal gives us the power to profess faith publicly! That is why we need not hesitate to evangelize, because the Holy Spirit is within us! Amazing, right? 🙂
Here are some points for reflection: Are we doing our part to draw people closer to God and the Church? Do I bravely speak Jesus’ name to others? Do I defend the Cross when some people make fun of the Cross and the Catholic Church? What is the Spirit saying to us today?
Let us pray:
Prayer for Evangelization
You called us each by name
and gave Your only Son to redeem us.
In Your faithfulness, You sent the Holy Spirit
to complete the mission of Jesus among us.
Open our hearts to Jesus.
Give us the courage to speak His name
to those who are close to us
and the generosity to share His love
with those who are far away.
We pray that every person
throughout the world
be invited to know and love Jesus,
as Saviour and Redeemer.
May they come to know His unsurpassing love.
May that love transform every element of our society.
We make this prayer
through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You
and the Holy Spirit,
One God, forever and ever,
